Whether they are called Mixed Breed, Crossbreed, Mutts, Mongrels, Hybrid Dogs, or Designer Dogs, they all have one thing in common: they have at least two ancestors of different breeds. These dogs can make excellent pets, every bit as good as a pure breed dog, and they repay the love and devotion of their owners in like kind. Whether the dog has a noble and exalted appearance or is downright funny-looking, they are still dogs, and as such have a special place in our hearts.
And, regardless of parentage, these dogs have exactly the same needs as their pedigreed cousins, and are deserving of the same level of care. Some Mixed Breed are bred deliberately like the Labradoodle, the American Eagle Dog, or the Affenhuahua. However, let’s face it, some are accidental pregnancies and very often the father may not ever be identified. But, regardless of their heritage Mixed Breed dogs should receive the care, protection, and love that every dog deserves.
Designer Dogs
Unlike accidental breedings, Designer Dogs result from the intentional breeding of at least two different breeds of dogs. Just before the clock started ticking to start the 21st Century, breeders started deliberately crossing dogs. The point was to combine characteristics from the parents into a new kind of dog that would provide some benefit. Because Poodles are generally considered to have a coat less likely to cause an allergic reaction in their humans, they were often used for the first Designer Dogs. For instance, Poodles were crossed with Cocker Spaniels to make the Cockapoo.
Designer Dogs, of which there are over twenty named types now, are not recognized by organizations like the AKC (American Kennel Club). Even though Designer Dogs are not ‘official’, they add joy and happiness to the homes where they live. Designer Dogs come in all sizes, from small ones like a blend of Chihuahua and Pug called the Chug, up to larger dogs like the Goldador – Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever blend.
Keeping Your Mixed Breed Well Fed
The health of your Labradoodle depends in large part on the quality of the food he or she is fed. Fortunately, there are now plenty of different foods, from kibble, to air-dried, to fresh or fresh-frozen, to canned, and to semi-moist rolls that will help you keep your dog in good shape. Choosing the right diet for your dog will help them live a longer, healthier life. Some dogs, unfortunately, can suffer from health problems, but today’s foods are often formulated to help these dogs manage their conditions.
In many ways, a higher quality of food may actually be less expensive than the economy brand from the shelf at the local grocery store. Because cheaper brands of food often depend on grains such as corn, wheat, or soy, a greater volume of food will be needed to supply your dog’s needs. If your Cavachon is a fussy eater, you might want to consider a designer food for your Designer Dog.

If you have a smaller Mixed Breed like a Chug, you may find that your pooch can be a somewhat picky eater (a lot of small dogs are). You might find exactly what you want at A Pup Above with their Fresh Food Sampler Pack. This will allow your sensitive little guy or gal to pick out the food they like best.
-
While Mixed Breed dogs are often thought to be healthier than single breed dogs, the truth is that your Schnoodle can also be subject to various health conditions that may necessitate a special diet. In fact, your dog may require a prescription diet to help manage health conditions.
- Providing a home-cooked meal for your dog isn’t hard when you have the right equipment, recipes, and supplements. You will certainly know that your pooch’s food is fresh if you make it yourself.
The high quality foods now available for dogs can help make sure that your dog gets the best level of nutrition possible for a long, healthy life.
Tucking Your Pal in for the Night
You know how refreshed you feel after a decent sleep during the night; doesn’t your dog deserve the same? A few rags thrown on the floor are not enough for your Mixed Breed or Designer Dog, they should have a comfortable, snug place to sleep. A dog’s health depends to a good degree on the quality of food he or she eats, but it also depends on the ability of a dog to rest properly. Active dogs, especially working ones, need a comfortable bed to sleep on. Even lap hounds appreciate the right bed when it’s snooze time.
-
If you own a small dog like a Malipoo or a Morkie, it’s quite possible that your small pooch will love the sense of security and warmth that a bed like the Links Luxe Bagel Bed provides. This bed allows your little chap to snuggle right up during cold nights. It might not be a bad idea to toss a blanket over him or her, too..
-
It’s not only small dogs that like that feeling of comfort that their bed provides, even a big dog like a Saint Berdoodle would be happy to be provided with a bed designed specifically for a large dog. This will allow them to stretch out comfortably.
-
For a supportive, orthopedic bed, you couldn’t do better than to get the Le Bed from Le Dog Company for your Dalmadoodle. Bring on the Treats and Toys
Do you like to give your dog treats? I know most dog owners do, ours sure love getting treats. If you’re training your Mixed Breed dog, treats are indispensable. Positive reinforcement is the best way to go when training your dog, and let’s face it, dogs respond very well to treats. Just make sure that the treats you use while training are small so that too many unneeded calories aren’t added to the diet.
